Blue Lodge Freemasonry

To receive the degrees of Scottish Rite Freemasonry, you must first have been raised to the sublime degree of master mason and be an active member in good standing of a blue lodge.

What is a mason? Click on this video narrated by Brother Benjamin Franklin, your Time To Prepare For Greatness has come.

Then, see our Membership page for further instructions on how to become a Scottish Rite mason in San Francisco.

York Rite

After being raised to the third degree, the master mason can also seek to Continue The Journey to learn the master mason’s word and seek the degrees of the York Rite. The degrees are divided into three sections: Royal Arch Degrees, Cryptic Degrees, and Knights Templar Orders. Learn more on the Grand York Rite of California website. Our local San Francisco-Peninsula Chapter, Council, and Commandery.

A master mason can also choose to join the Shriners. The Shriners are a fraternal organization based on “fun, fellowship, and the masonic principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth,” in their own words. You no longer need to join either the York Rite or the Scottish Rite to become a Shriner. Membership to the Shrine is open to all master masons. Learn more on the Shriners International website. Our local Shrine in San Francisco is the Asiya Temple in San Mateo. “Asiya” meaning he who stands up for the underdog and heals him.
